Forensic Thriller's Journey to International Fame.
LG Uplus’s content studio STUDIO X+U is gaining global attention after its new series Hunter with a Scalpel made its world premiere in the Rendez-vous (non-competition) section at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival (Canneseries).

On April 30, LG Uplus officially announced that Hunter with a Scalpel, produced by STUDIO X+U, was screened for the first time at the festival, marking another milestone for the company in the global content market.
The drama is a crime thriller centered around Se-hyun, a genius forensic pathologist played by Park Joo-hyun, who discovers traces of murder committed by her own father (played by Park Yong-woo). In a desperate attempt to conceal her past, she embarks on a dark hunt to capture her father — before the police do. The cast also includes Kang Hoon, bringing intense performances to the screen.
Before its Cannes debut, the series had already attracted industry buzz at Hong Kong FILMART, the largest entertainment content market in the Asia-Pacific region — signaling strong commercial potential.
Hunter with a Scalpel is set to premiere globally on June 16 through U+tv, U+mobiletv, and the Disney+ streaming platform, opening its story to a worldwide audience.
STUDIO X+U is no stranger to Cannes. This marks its second consecutive year being invited to the festival, following last year’s mid-form drama TARO: Seven Stories starring Cho Yeo-jeong and DEX.
Lee Deok-jae, Executive Vice President at LG Uplus, shared, “It’s an honor to premiere at Canneseries. We’ll continue to take on bold challenges to deliver differentiated content experiences for our audience.”
The studio has already made waves in the mid-form original market with back-to-back hits like Friendly Rivalry, No Way Out: The Roulette, High Cookie, and After Dark. Each project has contributed to STUDIO X+U’s growing reputation as a major player in compact yet impactful storytelling.
Looking ahead, the studio is gearing up for its next major release: a fantasy action series titled Twelve, set for the second half of this year.
Twelve is inspired by the 12 zodiac guardians of Eastern mythology, portraying 12 celestial beings who take human form to protect mankind from evil spirits. The story follows their epic battle against dark forces trying to awaken a sealed, destructive power.
