Go Youn-jung Gets Roasted on Her First Variety Show Appearance: “She’s Not Quite a Celebrity Yet”

Go Youn-jung, one of the most buzzed-about rising stars in Korean drama, is making her first-ever variety show appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block — and her director didn’t hold back with a few playful “roasts.”

Actress Go Youn-jung, currently starring in Resident Playbook (Korean title: 언젠가는 슬기로울 전공의생활) as rookie doctor Oh Yi-young, will appear on the April 30 episode of tvN’s hit variety program You Quiz on the Block. This marks her first official variety show appearance since her debut, raising anticipation from fans and drama lovers alike.

In the teaser clip uploaded to the show’s official channel, Go Youn-jung appears alongside child actor Moon Woo-jin and geological expert Professor Jung Chung-ki. She shares behind-the-scenes stories from Resident Playbook, where she plays a first-year resident learning the ropes of hospital life.

Unexpectedly, Resident Playbook creator and Hospital Playlist director Shin Won-ho dropped by the shoot to show support — and had some teasing words for Go.

“She’s an incredible actor, but not quite a celebrity yet,” he joked, drawing laughter from everyone on set.

Director Shin previously described Go as “a little bit like a 5th-grade boy during her audition,” noting her grounded demeanor:

“She has a low center of gravity emotionally. She doesn’t get easily shaken.”

On set, Go Youn-jung herself joked that her current real-life experience mirrors her character’s first-year jitters.

“I relate to her a lot,” she said, before mimicking her daily mantras: “Sorry. Let’s try that again. Thank you. Great job, everyone.” The room burst into laughter.

A graduate of Seoul Women’s University with a degree in Contemporary Art, Go Youn-jung also surprised the hosts by sketching Jo Se-ho during the segment, showing off her artistic side.

Now six years into her acting career, Go Youn-jung is enjoying a breakout moment thanks to her role in Resident Playbook. With her variety debut airing on April 30 at 8:45 PM KST on tvN, audiences are eager to see this new side of her.

Meanwhile, in Episode 6 of Resident Playbook, her character Oh Yi-young fiercely calls out a husband who makes an insensitive comment toward his struggling wife. With sharp delivery and a flash of righteous anger, Yi-young’s outburst becomes a standout moment — and showcases Go Youn-jung’s ability to balance emotional intensity with relatability. The scene resonated with viewers, further proving her growing range and presence as one of K-drama’s breakout stars of 2025.
