According to Netflix on April 27, Weak Hero Class 2 soared to No.1 on Korea’s Top 10 TV Shows, jumping seven spots from 8th place in just a day. What’s even more remarkable is that it achieved this despite its restricted age rating, highlighting the sheer intensity of its popularity.

The global response is just as impressive.

According to OTT data platform FlixPatrol, Weak Hero Class 2 ranked No.2 worldwide in Netflix's TV show category on April 26 (local time), scoring 708 points — a phenomenal feat achieved just one day after its release.

In a global market typically dominated by English-language content, a Korean drama climbing to the top so quickly is nothing short of extraordinary. Weak Hero Class 2 dropped all eight episodes on April 25 at 4 PM KST.

Based on a popular webtoon, Weak Hero Class 1 gained a passionate fanbase thanks to its strong storyline, emotional depth, stylish action scenes, and exceptional production quality. Even the re-release of Weak Hero Class 1 on Netflix ahead of Season 2 sparked explosive reactions. Within just five days, it hit 6.7 million views, landing at No.2 in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for non-English TV shows. It topped charts in Thailand and Malaysia, ranked second in Korea, Indonesia, and the Philippines, and entered the Top 10 in over 70 countries. This explosive success underscores the global dominance of Korean content.

According to a report by media analytics firm Ampere, released on April 15, Korean shows are the most popular on Netflix after American content. Since 2023, U.S. shows have accounted for about 56–59% of Netflix viewership, while Korean content has captured 8–9% — surpassing the UK (7–8%) and Japan (4–5%).

Weak Hero Class 2 follows Yeon Si-eun, a model student haunted by the trauma of failing to protect a friend, as he transfers to the notorious Eunjang High School. Although he hopes to live quietly, he is constantly branded as an outsider. After helping Seo Jun-tae, who’s being bullied, he forms a bond with Park Hu-min, Seo Jun-tae, and Go Hyun-tak — only to be dragged into even more brutal violence. Facing pressure from Na Baek-jin and Geum Sung-je to join a gang, Yeon Si-eun makes a desperate decision: he will fight again to protect his friends. His relentless battle against never-ending violence keeps the tension razor-sharp, leaving a powerful emotional impact.

Director Yoo Soo-min once again led the series, with Han Jun-hee serving as chief producer.

Park Ji-hoon reprises his role as Yeon Si-eun, delivering a performance marked by deep emotional nuance and restrained intensity. With just a glance or a breath, Park conveys Yeon Si-eun’s inner turmoil, solidifying the idea that "Weak Hero is Park Ji-hoon."

This season also levels up the "brain action" style, blending fierce fights with psychological storytelling to deliver even more compelling action scenes. New cast members Ryeoun, Choi Min-young, Yoo Su-bin, Bae Na-ra, Lee Min-jae, and Lee Jun-young breathe life into their characters, each playing a crucial role in Yeon Si-eun’s journey. Their chemistry and raw performances further deepen the story’s portrayal of growth and violence.

Viewers are raving about the series, with comments like "Yeon Si-eun is on another level," "Is there a Season 3 coming?" and "I binged the whole thing till 3 AM."

International fans have also flooded social media with praise, saying, "Park Ji-hoon’s acting has captured not just Korea, but the world."

K-dramas like Squid Game, When Life Gives You Tangerines, and Black Knight have already proven Korea’s dominance in the global market. Amid these heavyweights, Weak Hero Class 2 stands out by infusing a raw, coming-of-age noir vibe into the K-drama landscape — a refreshing twist.

By boldly tackling the darker sides of Korean youth reality, Weak Hero Class 2 navigates between action and drama with skill, hinting at the birth of a new genre: K-Youth Action.

It’s more than just another success story — it’s a glimpse into how Korean dramas are evolving on the world stage.

Weak Hero Class 2 is now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
