Why Choi Si-hoon and Ailee Moved Out of Their 3,200 Sq Ft Newlywed Penthouse

Singer Ailee and actor/influencer Choi Si-hoon (from hit Netflix series Single's Inferno) recently opened up about married life—and the surprising reason they left their spacious newlywed apartment.

On April 23, YouTube channel kiu기우쌤 uploaded a video titled “Congratulations to Choi Si-hoon and Ailee on Their Marriage.” In it, Choi Si-hoon appeared as a guest and shared personal stories about his relationship and marriage with Ailee.

Recalling their first meeting, Choi explained, “There’s a YouTuber named Junwoo. He brought some friends to my shop on a weekday, which is usually quiet. That’s when I first met Ailee.” At the time, there was no romantic interest—both admitted they weren’t each other’s type.

However, things changed after Choi attended Ailee’s concert. “Junwoo and I have birthdays just a couple days apart, so Ailee invited us to her concert. When I saw her on stage, I was blown away. I fell for her instantly,” he laughed.

He added, “At our age, it’s not easy to be bold about feelings. Even if you like someone, you hesitate. But somehow, things just clicked.” Although they’ve been together for a year and a half, they had already booked a wedding venue just three months into dating.

When asked about living together, Choi admitted, “It’s great—but at first, it was tough having no personal space.” He then revealed the surprising reason they moved: Ailee originally lived in a 90-pyeong (~3,200 sq ft) apartment. “We lived there for about a year, but honestly, the house was too big,” he said. “When you're newlyweds, you want to be close, have conversations—but in a house that big, if we were apart, I had to search just to find her!”

Ailee had previously shown the apartment on Choi’s YouTube channel and explained, “We’re moving to a smaller place because we’re married now. When I lived alone, I needed the space to host friends—but that’s not the case anymore.”

Choi Si-hoon and Ailee tied the knot on April 20 at a wedding hall in Gangnam, Seoul. The couple, introduced through mutual acquaintances, dated for about a year before officially announcing their marriage in November 2023. It was also revealed that they had legally registered their marriage as early as August last year.
