Dokdo Labeled with Precision on Netflix!
Netflix’s reality show Kian’s Bizarre B&B is gaining attention not only for its quirky concept but also for its accurate and respectful labeling of Dokdo, a territory of South Korea that has long been the subject of territorial disputes.

The series stars Kian84, a well-known webtoon artist and entertainer, who opens a guesthouse on Ulleungdo, an island off Korea’s east coast. Guests—including BTS member Jin and singer-actress Ji Ye-eun—experience heartfelt conversations, unexpected chaos, and a unique stay in the countryside.
“DOKDO” in All Languages
In Episode 6, released on April 15, a father and his two sons visit Dokdo. As breathtaking views of the island are shown, the Korean word “독도(Dokdo)” appears boldly in the sky. When subtitles are switched to English, the word is correctly rendered as “DOKDO.” In Japanese subtitles, it appears as “独島(ドクト)”, or “Dokuto,” which phonetically reflects the Korean pronunciation of Dokdo.

This level of care hasn’t gone unnoticed. In the past, several streaming platforms—including international services—faced criticism for mislabeling Dokdo as “Takeshima,” Japan’s claim to the territory. Kian’s Bizarre B&B, however, is receiving praise for sticking to the correct and official Korean designation.
Viewers React: “Netflix Officially Recognized Dokdo”
Korean netizens quickly responded to the show’s approach with enthusiasm and pride, leaving comments such as “Netflix officially recognizes Dokdo!”, “This is patriotic subtitling!”, “Even international ARMYs watching for Jin will see 'DOKDO'—that’s satisfying,” and “Netflix did it right.”

A New Kind of Guesthouse Show
Kian’s Bizarre B&B reached No.1 on Netflix’s Top 10 Series in Korea immediately after release. The show has also entered the Top 10 rankings in 18 countries including Singapore, Brazil, and Japan, showcasing its growing global popularity.
The series is helmed by PD Jung Hyo-min and writer Yoon Shin-hye, the duo behind JTBC’s beloved Hyori’s Bed & Breakfast (2017–2019). Anticipation was high even before its release, and the show appears to be delivering.
PD Jung shared during a press event, “The audience seems to enjoy the fresh yet uncomfortably relatable vibe of the show. From Episode 4, things really pick up as the staff chemistry explodes, and the guests’ stories start to shine.”
Episodes 7 through 9 of Kian’s Bizarre B&B will be released on April 22.
