BoA Returns to the Stage After Controversy—Set to Be Honored in Tribute Performance
K-pop icon BoA is making her return to the spotlight—not with an apology, but with a celebration of her legendary career.
Following recent controversy over a livestream and a heartfelt reflection shared with fans, BoA has been announced as the featured Tribute Artist for this year’s Weverse Con Festival (also known as Weverse Con or WICONFE), hosted by HYBE and fan platform Weverse.

On April 17, organizers revealed that BoA will headline the Tribute Stage at the festival, which takes place May 31 and June 1 at Inspire Entertainment Resort in Incheon. As this year’s selected artist, she will not only perform herself but also be honored by younger K-pop artists reinterpreting her hits in special tribute performances.
BoA’s return comes on the heels of public criticism surrounding a casual, alcohol-influenced livestream held on April 5 with TV personality Jun Hyun-moo. During the live, BoA responded to a fan question about the rumored relationship between Jun Hyun-moo and comedian Park Na-rae with comments like “I don’t think they’ll date,” and “He’s too good for her,” which drew backlash.
She later apologized, stating, “I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable due to my careless and immature remarks.” BoA also reached out to Park Na-rae directly to offer a personal apology, which was graciously accepted.
A Raw and Honest Reflection
On April 15, BoA took to social media to open up about her emotional state in recent years.
“I’ve had a hard time not only professionally but personally over the past few years,” she wrote.
“There was a time when I thought doing what I was told and giving it my all would be enough. But as the world changed—and I changed—I kept questioning whether this is still where I belong.”
Despite her doubts, BoA revealed the one constant in her life: music.
“I couldn’t let go of music, because if I did, I felt like everything in my life would fall apart. That’s why, in any form, I still want to stay connected with all of you through music.”
She added, “I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to keep performing… but I believe there’s still a passionate spark inside us. I want to ignite that fire again—with you.”
BoA debuted in 2000 and has since become a pillar of K-pop with timeless hits like No.1, Valenti, Atlantis Princess, Girls on Top, Only One, and Better. Known as the “Star of Asia,” she helped define early Hallyu and paved the way for future K-pop generations.
Now celebrating her 25th debut anniversary, BoA’s return to the stage isn’t just a performance—it’s a statement. Fans are eager to see how she will channel her personal journey and reignite the “fire” she spoke of in front of a live audience.
