“Can’t Pay ₩38 Million?” Kim Soo-hyun’s Side Addresses Rumors Over Lawsuit Against Kim Sae-ron’s Family

Actor Kim Soo-hyun has reportedly paid approximately ₩38 million (about $26,792 USD) in legal fees to move forward with a lawsuit filed against GaSe-yeon, the right-wing YouTube channel “Garosero Research Institute,” and the family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron.

According to legal industry sources on April 17, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 14 (Presiding Judge Jung Ha-jung) issued a correction order on April 2. The court requested Kim's side to supplement missing court costs, including the lawsuit filing fee and delivery charges. In legal terms, a “correction” refers to the process of amending errors in official filings such as complaints.

While Kim’s side initially announced a damages claim of ₩12 billion (approx. $8.46 million USD), the amount officially submitted to the court was ₩11 billion. The court adjusted the case value to ₩12 billion and ordered the fees to be paid based on that amount.

On April 16, Kim’s legal team reportedly submitted a request for an extension of the correction deadline. They included a payment confirmation for the fees and updated address information for some of the defendants.

Earlier rumors speculated that Kim had not paid the ₩38 million fee, fueling talk of financial hardship. However, those claims were proven false. His legal counsel at LKB & Partners clarified that the extension request was due to standard address corrections and had nothing to do with money.

Kim’s side also reportedly took the full seven days to receive the court’s correction order. Although the order was issued on April 2, it officially arrived at midnight on April 10.

As a result, the case has yet to enter the full trial phase, and all eyes are on what happens next as it gradually progresses through the legal system.
