On April 15, BoA took to fan community platform Weverse, addressing the criticism and reflecting on her emotional struggles in recent years. “For the past few years, I’ve gone through difficult times — not just in my work, but personally as well,” she began. “I believed I was doing my best, running forward with everything I had.”

BoA acknowledged that her energy and approach might have felt uncomfortable to some, saying, “Still, I realized that the way I’ve been pushing forward might have come across as unsettling to certain people.” But she made one thing clear. “The reason I can’t let go of music is because if music disappears, it feels like my entire life collapses.”

“Music and You Were Always There”

The singer continued, revealing just how much her connection to music and fans kept her going during hard times. “Even in moments when I was breaking down, when I felt I couldn’t rise again — music and you were still there.” She added “I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to stand on stage. We’re all getting older. But I believe there’s still that burning potential inside all of us. I want to tap into that energy again — with you.”

“Because of all of you, I’m still BoA today.”

Controversy Sparked by Live Broadcast With Jun Hyun-moo

The message follows criticism of BoA’s behavior during an April 5 live broadcast, where she appeared alongside Jun Hyun-moo. The two were drinking while livestreaming, and when a viewer mentioned rumors of Jun dating comedian Park Na-rae, BoA casually responded, “I don’t think they’re dating. I don’t think they can.” Jun then asked, “Are you saying I'm not good enough?” To which BoA replied: “No — you’re the one who’s much better than Park Na-rae.”

Though the moment may have been lighthearted, the exchange triggered backlash on social media and online forums, with comments like, “That was rude,” “What did Park Na-rae do to deserve that?,” “BoA seemed too drunk to speak carefully.”

In response, BoA issued an apology on April 7, also via Weverse:

“I sincerely apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable due to my careless remarks and immature behavior during the live broadcast.”

BoA’s full letter reflects vulnerability, growth, and a continuing commitment to music and her fans — a legacy built not just on performance, but on connection.
