The controversy began when a video was posted to an Instagram channel 'Nyang Nyang Clip' with the caption “Rushing to pick up the idol’s dropped item amid attitude controversy.” The clip shows Sunwoo, a member of THE BOYZ, heading toward an elevator after finishing his schedule. In the footage, he accidentally drops an AirPod and, while stepping into the elevator, shouts, “My AirPod!”

A security guard quickly retrieves it and hands it over. What sparked criticism was that Sunwoo took the AirPod with one hand and appeared not to say thank you. This short moment triggered accusations of poor manners and “lack of basic courtesy.” Comments flooded in, questioning why he didn’t offer a verbal or physical thank-you gesture. Some fans, however, defended Sunwoo, explaining that a fan had pointed out the dropped AirPod, and by the time he turned around, the security guard had already picked it up.

Among the many reactions, Nana jumped in directly, commenting from her own account: “Someone needs to be scolded.” Given her status as a senior idol, the remark quickly went viral. Some fans speculated she may have mistaken the post for something else, while others applauded her for “saying what needed to be said.”

In response to the growing controversy, Sunwoo issued a personal apology on April 2 through a fan communication platform.

“Someone in the crowd yelled something, and I didn’t even realize I had dropped anything at first,” he explained. “Once I knew it was my AirPod, I did say thank you, even though I didn’t bow my head.”

He acknowledged that, on video, his behavior may have come across as rude, saying, “I always make sure to thank people—whether they hold a door or clean a space. I may not bow every time, but I’m always appreciative.”

He continued, “I can’t explain myself every single time something like this happens, but I understand how it looked. That’s on me.”

“From now on, I’ll make sure to physically bow my head when saying thank you, to avoid misunderstandings.”

Sunwoo’s direct engagement and willingness to accept feedback have received mixed reactions—some feel the issue was overblown, while others saw his clarification as a mature response to criticism in the spotlight.
