A special space where life and death intersect—Obstetrics and Gynecology.
The growth drama of doctors, and the untold stories behind it.
The reason why Resident Playbook, also known as Wise Resident Life (언젠가는 슬기로울 전공의생활) chose Obstetrics and Gynecology as its backdrop has finally been revealed.

On the afternoon of the 10th, the production press conference for tvN's new weekend drama Resident Playbook was held at the Ramada Hotel Grand Ballroom in Sin-dorim, Guro-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by creator Shin Won-ho, director Lee Min-soo, and cast members Go Youn-jung, Shin Si-ah, Kang You-seok, Han Ye-ji, and Jung Jun-won, who shared insights into the drama.
Resident Playbook follows the journey of residents who dream of becoming wise doctors as they navigate through their ups and downs during their residency. This is a spin-off of the popular series Hospital Playlist (슬기로운 의사생활).
Unlike the previous series, this time the story is set in Obstetrics and Gynecology, which has drawn increased interest. The drama will cover both Obstetrics, the field of childbirth, and Gynecology, a relatively untouched area in the previous series, providing a diverse range of stories.
Director Lee Min-soo explained, "Since this is a spin-off, we thought about bringing elements from the original series while also showing new aspects. Even though it's set in Yulje Hospital, we’ve created a variation with a different setting—Jongno Yulje Gwonwon—nearby to give it a fresh twist."

He continued, "The protagonists aren’t highly skilled professors, but rather clumsy and inexperienced residents. We wanted to maintain the vibe of Hospital Playlist but add a different kind of fun and charm."
So, why did they choose Obstetrics and Gynecology as the background for the drama? Director Lee said, “Before I started working on the project, I didn’t realize, but Obstetrics and Gynecology has both Obstetrics, dealing with childbirth, and Gynecology, dealing with diseases. On one side, new life is being born, while on the other, families are losing their loved ones due to illness. It’s a unique and delicate space.”
He added, “This space, along with the story of young residents growing into doctors, seemed to fit perfectly. That’s why we were able to come up with many diverse and interesting episodes.”
