Netflix's Most Unconventional B&B Adventure

The Netflix original variety show 'Kian’s Bizarre B&B' has claimed the No.1 spot on “Everyone’s Watching in Netflix US” as of April 9 (KST).

The show also topped the same chart in Taiwan and Turkey. In South Korea, it quickly rose to No. 2 on “Trending Now” and No. 3 on “Top 10 TV Series in Korea Today” within just one day of its release, generating huge buzz.

The show stars Kian84, a beloved webtoon artist and variety show regular, who opens a wildly unconventional B&B on Ulleung Island. Joining him are BTS’s Jin and entertainer Ji Ye-eun, making for a wildly unpredictable combination.

In the first three episodes, released earlier this week, Jin and Ji Ye-eun are visibly shocked and frustrated after discovering the extreme and impractical guesthouse setup created by Kian84. Built atop a floating barge, the accommodation requires guests to arrive by boat, climb a 3.8-meter wall to enter, slide down a slide to exit, and use poles instead of stairs to move between floors. For sleeping, only outdoor cots are available.

Kian84 explained, “I didn’t want guests to enter too easily. I designed it like a military barracks, based on nostalgic memories from my time in the army.” To prepare for bad weather, he also constructed a backup guesthouse deep in the forest. Guests must take a 7-minute monorail ride through dense trees to reach a small hut without a chimney.

Inside, the kitchen and bedroom are merged, and the entire interior fills with smoke whenever the wood-burning stove is lit. The show’s first guests, students from KAIST, asked, “Why didn’t you build a chimney?” and jokingly compared the experience to the "despair episode" of JTBC’s 'Hyori’s Homestay'.

Viewers have responded with praise, calling the cast chemistry hilarious and the format refreshingly unexpected. At a press event, director Jung Hyo-min described the show as a coming-of-age story about Kian84 running a guesthouse for youth, saying he was chosen as someone potentially more entertaining than the Hyori’s Homestay cast.

Kian’s Bizarre B&B is a 9-episode series, with three episodes released every Tuesday at 4 PM KST.
