The series in question? 'Heo’s Diner', a fantasy-comedy-romance starring Xiumin from EXO.

Based on a popular web novel, 'Heo’s Diner' follows Heo Gyun, a literary genius from the Joseon Dynasty, who accidentally time-slips 400 years into the future. Now in modern-day Seoul, he ends up running a humble eatery with a woman named Bong Eun-sil. The drama offers a delightful mix of chaos, cooking, and unexpected romance as the two navigate daily life in their quirky restaurant.

The show, which airs simultaneously on MBN Plus, Netflix, and Wavve, has steadily gained attention since its premiere on March 24. Now, with only a few episodes left in its 10-part run, it’s climbed the ranks to secure its spot among big-name titles like 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call', and 'Adolescence.'

While it’s a time-travel tale at heart, 'Heo’s Diner' is much more than that. It cleverly explores cultural clashes between Joseon and modern Korea, food as a bridge between people, and timeless values like empathy and human connection.

In the drama, Xiumin plays Heo Gyun—a poetic prodigy with a keen literary mind and refined palate. Though a man of the past, he quickly adapts to modern life, serving up soul-stirring dishes and heartfelt moments. Critics have praised Xiumin’s performance for his stable vocal tone and expressive humor, adding depth and charm to the character.

Opposite him is Chu So-jung, who plays Bong Eun-sil, the feisty and warm-hearted daughter of a local diner owner. She brings lively energy to the screen and shares natural chemistry with Xiumin.

Lee Se-on delivers a standout performance in a dual role as both the powerful Joseon official Lee Yi-cheom and a present-day Korean cuisine master named Lee Hyuk.

Lee Soo-min also impresses in dual roles as Maechang and Jung Mi-sol, showcasing her versatility across eras.

A major appeal of 'Heo’s Diner' lies in its emotional resonance. From Heo Gyun encountering modern society’s oddities to quiet scenes rekindling forgotten Korean values like jeong (emotional warmth) and empathy, the show leaves a lasting impact.

The OST also plays a crucial role in amplifying the show’s charm. Its genre-spanning soundtrack adds emotional weight to key scenes, and a track sung by Xiumin himself has caused a buzz among fans.

In a recent interview, Xiumin described the series as “It’s like instant ramen—familiar, comforting, and always satisfying.”

With its warm humor, heartfelt moments, and genre-defying approach, 'Heo’s Diner' is winning over viewers at home and abroad, offering a fresh and flavorful take on the Korean historical drama.
