The Crimson S-Line Shines on the Cannes Pink Carpet

Model-turned-actor Lee Soo-hyuk is set to make a glamorous global appearance as he walks the pink carpet at the 2025 Cannes International Series Festival (Canneseries) for the world premiere of his new drama S-Line.

Lee has been officially invited to the 8th Canneseries as the lead actor in S-Line, which has the honor of being the only Korean production selected for the festival’s prestigious long-form competition section this year. The series will premiere on the global stage before its official release in South Korea in 2025.

S-Line: A Bold, Sensual, and Mysterious K-drama

Based on a popular webtoon, S-Line explores a daring concept: a mysterious crimson line appears above the heads of people who have been sexually involved, connecting them regardless of time, place, or secrecy. Known as the “S-Line”, this visual phenomenon creates chaos in a world where relationships—past and present—can no longer be hidden.

In the series, Lee Soo-hyuk plays Han Ji-wook, a free-spirited detective who is both hauntingly handsome and emotionally complex. As he investigates the truth behind the S-Line phenomenon, secrets unravel and society is forced to confront taboos around intimacy, privacy, and identity.

“It feels like a moment I’ve dreamed of for a long time,” Lee said in response to the Cannes invitation.

“I’m honored and excited to represent Korean content on a global stage.”

A Fashion Icon and TV Personality

Known for his piercing visuals, deep voice, and otherworldly aura, Lee Soo-hyuk first rose to fame as one of South Korea’s most elite runway models. He was part of the “Model Avengers” crew, which included top stars like Kim Woo-bin, Hong Jong-hyun, Kim Young-kwang, and Sung Joon—all of whom transitioned from modeling to acting.

In a recent episode of MBC's Good Day, actor Lee Soo-hyuk expressed feeling left out after seeing camping photos posted by fellow actor Jung Hae-in. The images featured members of the '88-liners' group, including Kwanghee and G-Dragon, enjoying a camping trip without extending an invitation to Lee.

During the show, Lee candidly shared his disappointment, noting that the outing occurred right after their previous gathering, and humorously questioned why he and G-Dragon weren't included. In response, Im Si-wan explained that the camping trip had been planned before their recent meeting. Despite the explanation, Lee playfully remarked that an invitation would have been appreciated. G-Dragon, maintaining a light-hearted tone, commented, "As long as you had fun, that's what matters." Jung Hae-in later revealed that G-Dragon had sent him a screenshot of the camping photos, indicating his interest and perhaps subtle disappointment.

This exchange highlighted the close-knit dynamics and playful camaraderie among the '88-liners,' a group of celebrities born in 1988, including (previously) Kim Soo-hyun, Im Si-wan, Kwanghee, Lee Soo-hyuk, Jung Hae-in, and G-Dragon. Their interactions on Good Day offer fans a glimpse into their genuine friendships and light-hearted banter.

A Jam-Packed Year of Screen Projects

Lee Soo-hyuk’s schedule is packed with upcoming releases. In addition to S-Line, he stars in the film Paran (파란), set to premiere on April 9. He plays Tae-hwa, a national team clay shooting athlete battling internal demons and personal loss. The role promises to showcase Lee’s ability to portray raw, emotional depth.

In the upcoming thriller Sister (working title), Lee transforms into Tae-soo, a cold, calculated loan shark who orchestrates a high-stakes kidnapping plot. Known for his mysterious and icy roles in past dramas like Tomorrow (with Kim Hee-sun and Rowoon of SF9), Doom at Your Service (with Seo In-guk and Park Bo-young), and The Scholar Who Walks the Night (alongside Lee Joong-ki and Kim So-eun), Lee continues to reinvent himself with every project.

Global Stage Awaits in Cannes

S-Line will compete against top series from around the world at the Canneseries Closing Ceremony on April 29 in Cannes, France. This appearance marks a key moment in the global expansion of Korean content, following in the footsteps of Cannes favorites like Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Squid Game.

Lee Soo-hyuk's unique visual style, daring role choices, and versatile acting make him a standout presence—not just in Korea but on the international stage.
