A Warm Act of Charity: IU’s 200 Million KRW Donation
IU’s Heartfelt Gratitude for Firefighters’ Dedication
In response to the devastating wildfires in the Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Yeongnam regions—recorded as the worst wildfires in history—IU has donated 200 million KRW to aid those affected. As she enjoys the peak of her career through the hit Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines, her genuine actions are garnering widespread attention.
On March 26, the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association announced that IU had donated 100 million KRW to wildfire relief efforts and 100 million KRW to improve the working conditions and awareness of firefighters, totaling 200 million KRW.

What stood out about this donation is IU’s thoughtful inclusion of firefighter support. IU said, "I hope this small contribution can help those affected by the fires, and I deeply mourn for the victims. I sincerely hope the fires are put out quickly, with no further loss of life." She added, "I deeply appreciate the dedication of the firefighters working tirelessly to extinguish the flames."
Shin Hoon, Secretary General of Hope Bridge, praised IU's donation, saying, "This donation reflects a deep solidarity with the community and gratitude for those working behind the scenes. We will do our best to ensure that this precious support reaches the affected regions and those on the frontlines."
IU has long been known as one of the entertainment industry's leading philanthropists. She has consistently participated in charitable donations during natural disasters, including supporting victims of the 2020 floods and the 2022 East Coast wildfires. Her total disclosed donations have reached an impressive 6 billion KRW, and in 2019, Forbes named her one of the 30 Heroes of Asia in charitable giving at the youngest age.
Currently, IU is enjoying global popularity through her role in the Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines while maintaining her strong sense of social responsibility, setting an example for her fans and peers.

Meanwhile, the wildfire that began in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, and spread throughout the Yeongnam region is now being recorded as the worst in history. As of March 26, there have been 18 confirmed deaths, and more than 23,000 residents have been evacuated. A helicopter crash during firefighting efforts also resulted in fatalities.
Amid this tragic situation, other celebrities have also stepped forward with donations. Singer Lee Chan-won, from Uljoo, donated 100 million KRW, and actress Bae Suzy also contributed 100 million KRW. Other notable figures, such as Yoo Jae-suk, NCT’s Haechan, Go Min-si, Park Bo-young, Im Si-wan, and WINNER’s Kim Jin-woo, have also donated amounts ranging from 30 million to 50 million KRW.
Donations for wildfire victims can be made through online fundraising platforms such as the Hope Bridge website, Naver Happy Bean, and Kakao Together. For more details, please visit the Hope Bridge website.
Meanwhile, When Life Gives You Tangerines continues to dominate worldwide, captivating global audiences with its emotional depth and unique storytelling. The series, starring IU and Park Bo-gum, has quickly become a fan favorite on Netflix, topping charts and gaining a loyal international following.
