On March 6, Netflix confirmed production of the upcoming drama 'Wish Your Death' (original Korean title 'GIRIGO'), unveiling an intriguing cast of rising stars: Jeon So-young, Kang Mi-na, Baek Seon-ho, Hyun Woo-seok, and Lee Hyo-je.

'Wish Your Death' centers around a sinister mobile app named "Girigo," which promises to fulfill users' wishes—but with deadly consequences. The story follows a group of high school students who, after receiving sudden and horrifying death predictions through the app, desperately race against time to uncover the chilling truth. When their friend mysteriously dies, five teenagers find themselves drawn into a nerve-racking journey to break the deadly curse behind "Girigo."

What makes 'Wish Your Death' particularly intriguing is Netflix’s first venture into the Young Adult horror genre. Having previously conquered mystery and thriller dramas, Netflix aims to amplify tension by tapping into teenage anxieties, desires, and fears. Adding credibility to this fresh concept is director Park Yoon-seo, who previously made a name for himself as an assistant director on hits like 'Kingdom' Season 2, films 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' as well as directing episodes of Disney+ hit drama 'Moving.'

■ Following the Success of 'All of Us Are Dead'

Before 'Wish Your Death,' Netflix achieved massive success in a similar teen-focused horror drama, 'All of Us Are Dead.' The zombie thriller, adapted from a popular webtoon, depicted high school students fighting to survive a zombie outbreak that rapidly overtakes their campus.

Despite featuring relatively unknown actors like Park Ji-hoo, Lim Jae-hyuk, Lee Yoo-mi, Lomon, Yoon Chan-young, Son Sang-yeon, and Cho Yi-hyun, the show earned rave reviews for its realistic zombie effects and compelling performances. Upon release, 'All of Us Are Dead' quickly topped Netflix’s charts in Korea and ranked within the top 10 in over 90 countries worldwide. Particularly, Cho Yi-hyun gained international attention for her portrayal of Choi Nam-ra, propelling her to ongoing popularity and numerous subsequent roles.

Following that successful blueprint, 'Wish Your Death' introduces audiences to newcomer Jeon So-young as protagonist Se-ah, a track-and-field star at Seorin High School. Known for her fearless devotion to friends, Se-ah becomes the heart of the group’s search for answers behind the sinister app.

Joining Jeon is former Gugudan and I.O.I member Kang Mi-na, playing Se-ah’s best friend Na-ri—a character adored for her looks and popularity, yet skeptical of Se-ah’s claims about the app.

Baek Seon-ho takes on the role of Geon-woo, Se-ah’s boyfriend who struggles to understand her growing obsession with "Girigo." Meanwhile, Hyun Woo-seok portrays Ha-joon, the group's intellectual backbone, whose coding expertise helps unravel the app’s dark secrets. Actor Lee Hyo-je, known for his roles in dramas such as 'Hunted' and 'Lost,' rounds out the cast as mischievous troublemaker Hyung-wook, whose wish unexpectedly comes true through "Girigo," pulling him deeper into the terrifying mystery.

With its fresh, youthful cast and a gripping premise exploring teenage fears and hidden desires, 'Wish Your Death' promises a new level of thrilling storytelling that’s already sparking worldwide curiosity and excitement. Netflix’s ambitious venture into Young Adult horror could very well become its next global obsession.
