Olivia Marsh Officially Admits to Plagiarism for Her New Song 'Backseat.'
Singer Olivia Marsh’s latest track ‘Backseat’ has been confirmed as a plagiarized song. On February 24, her agency, Mplify, released an official statement acknowledging the plagiarism and issuing a public apology.

‘Backseat’ was initially credited as a song in which Olivia Marsh was directly involved in writing, composing, and arranging. However, following its release, allegations arose that the song bore striking similarities to ‘Onion Boy’ by Isaac Dunbar.
Mplify stated, “Olivia Marsh released her first album ‘Meanwhile’ on February 13. After its release, concerns were raised that one of the album’s double title tracks, ‘Backseat’, resembled Isaac Dunbar’s ‘Onion Boy’.”

The agency admitted to the allegations, saying, “Upon directly comparing the two songs, we concluded that Isaac Dunbar’s claims were valid.” They further revealed that they had reached an amicable agreement with Dunbar, ensuring that his rights as the original creator were protected. “We have reached a mutually agreeable settlement with Isaac Dunbar, and are working on negotiating composition shares, credit registration, and other necessary steps to ensure the rights of the original artist are protected."
Mplify emphasized their commitment to artistic integrity and fair creative practices. "We will continue to prioritize transparency and respect for all creators. We take this incident as a lesson and will thoroughly review our internal systems to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.”

The agency concluded, “Once again, we sincerely apologize to Isaac Dunbar and to the fans who were disappointed by this incident.”
Previously, Isaac Dunbar had taken to social media to claim that Olivia Marsh’s ‘Backseat’ closely resembled his song ‘Onion Boy’. In response to the controversy, Marsh personally acknowledged the plagiarism allegations and issued a public apology through her agency.
Olivia Marsh released her debut album ‘Meanwhile’ on February 13. She is also widely known as the older sister of NewJeans(NJZ) member Danielle.
