Cha Joo-young Opens Up About Her Family, Acting Struggles, and ‘The Glory’ Behind-the-Scenes
Cha Joo-young, known for her impressive performance in TVING’s The Queen Who Crowns and Netflix’s The Glory, has finally spoken out about the long-standing “silver spoon” rumors surrounding her background.

On the February 19 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, she addressed speculation that she came from a wealthy family.
Cha clarified, “I’m not a chaebol heiress. It’s true that my father works in finance, and many of my relatives are also in the industry, so I grew up around that world. But I’m not a ‘silver spoon’ by any means.”
She shared that her family had expected her to follow a similar career path, even sending her abroad for studies. “I thought I’d end up in finance. I was studying ballet, but one day, my parents made the decision for me—I was suddenly sent overseas. I thought I was heading to the U.S., but I woke up in Malaysia. They wanted me to experience the Asian market before attending university in the U.S. or the U.K.”

Her Father’s Disapproval of Acting
Cha revealed that she faced strong opposition from her father regarding her acting career. “My father was strict, and our family had a patriarchal dynamic. Acting was never an option in his eyes,” she admitted.
Despite this, she chose to follow her passion, explaining, “I wanted a job where I could leave something behind. Studying could always come later, but I needed to do what truly pulled at my heart.”

Her Relentless Work Ethic as an Actress
The actress opened up about the challenges of being in the entertainment industry, saying:
“Uncertainty has always been my driving force. I constantly felt like an outsider, and I wanted to prove myself.”
“I never sleep when I’m working on a project. My gums have receded from stress, and I don’t know how to take shortcuts—I push myself until I get it right.”
“I can’t call myself an actress unless I give my all.”
‘The Glory’ Cast’s Dedication Behind the Scenes
Cha also revealed behind-the-scenes insights from the massively successful Netflix series The Glory:
“I knew it was going to be a hit. Every actor on set was fighting for their lives—no one took this project lightly.”
“I once asked the director, ‘How did you assemble such a strong cast for The Glory?’ He said he saw how desperate we all were. Everyone knew this drama had to succeed, and we didn’t want to let each other down.”
“Despite being close off-screen, we never made small talk on set. It was all about staying in character and delivering the best performance possible.”
Cha Joo-young’s candid revelations give fans a deeper understanding of her tenacity, background, and dedication to her craft.
