On February 16, global football outlet Mad Football unveiled its list of the Top 24 Premier League players of the century, with Son ranking 23rd. Having played in the EPL for a decade, he stands as one of the league’s most celebrated international stars.

A Decade of Records in the EPL

Since joining Tottenham in 2015 for a £22 million (approx. $27.8 million) transfer fee, Son has played 325 matches, scoring 126 goals and providing 69 assists in the league.

He has also set multiple club and league records, including:

🏆 Premier League Golden Boot (2021-22)

🏅 Four-time Premier League Player of the Month

⚽ 2020 Puskás Award winner for his iconic solo goal vs. Burnley

📈 Eight consecutive seasons with double-digit goals (2016-2023)

Although his goal-scoring form has slowed this season, Son is just four goals away from securing a ninth straight season with double-digit goals.

Captaincy Debate Sparks Mixed Opinions

Despite his individual success, Son’s leadership as Tottenham’s captain has drawn mixed reactions.

Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp questioned his ability to lead during tough moments, saying: "I’ve never seen Son as a captain. What did he do when Spurs were struggling?" Ex-Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara echoed similar sentiments, adding: "Matches against Liverpool and Aston Villa were crucial tests, and Spurs fell apart. Leadership starts with the manager and captain."

However, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou defended Son’s leadership qualities, stating: "He sets the standard in training and preparation, positively influencing the squad. He’s forming strong bonds within the club and leading well."

Ranking Among EPL Legends

Son was ranked just ahead of Arsenal’s Cesc Fàbregas (24th), while names like Mesut Özil, Rodri, Patrick Vieira, and Eden Hazard were placed above him.

Meanwhile, his former strike partner Harry Kane secured 8th place, with the Top 5 as follows:

🥇 Thierry Henry (Arsenal)

🥈 Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

🥉 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

🏅 Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United)

🏅 Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

What’s Next for Son?

Despite past transfer speculations, Son remains committed to Tottenham, having extended his contract until 2026.

As he continues to break records and solidify his place among EPL legends, fans are eager to see how much further he can go in the coming years.
