The film, which is the fifth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Phase 5 and the fourth in the Captain America series, introduces Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America. Mackie’s portrayal of Sam Wilson adds a fresh and exciting dynamic to the franchise, deviating from the traditional formula.
On its opening day, Captain America: Brave New World secured 43.6% of ticket sales and surpassed 100,000 pre-sales. The film’s global impact is clear as it quickly overtook the previous box-office leader, Hitman 2, which had amassed 2.36 million viewers. Now, the MCU entry is on track to dominate the cinema landscape.

Directed by Julius Ona, the movie blends political thriller elements with its action-packed storytelling. Drawing inspiration from political films like The Day of the Jackal (1973) and Assassins (1967), this installment moves away from the typical space invasion plotlines, focusing instead on internal political conflict within the U.S. government. The story kicks off with President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) attempting to equitably distribute Adamantium ore discovered on a celestial island in the Indian Ocean. However, when a terror attack rocks the White House, Sam Wilson finds himself drawn into the conflict to uncover the truth.
Notably, Ford’s portrayal of President Ross brings a new, fierce energy to the character, who is set to transform into the Red Hulk. Ford’s charismatic performance has earned praise for breathing new life into this role, previously played by William Hurt.

Fans’ reactions to Captain America: Brave New World have been overwhelmingly positive. One viewer commented, “This movie made my heart race! I haven’t been this moved by a Marvel film in a long time.” Another added, “Sam Wilson’s grounded, human heroism is refreshing – he’s relatable, and the action scenes, especially the aerial combat, are next level.”
While staying true to its political thriller roots, the film also showcases Wilson's unique fighting style, with his vibranium shield, suit, and winged acrobatics. His chemistry with new Falcon, Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), has fans eagerly anticipating more.
With Captain America: Brave New World, Marvel has ushered in a new era, proving that superhero films can have deep political and emotional layers while still delivering thrilling action. The film’s runtime is 118 minutes, and it’s rated PG-12. Currently, it’s playing in theaters nationwide.
After the credits, there’s a post-credits scene that promises more surprises in future MCU films.
As of today, Captain America: Brave New World holds the top spot on the real-time box office rankings, followed by Secret: Untold Melody (2nd) and Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17 (3rd), which opens on February 28.
