The K-pop girl group NewJeans is officially stepping into a new chapter under the name 'NJZ' (pronounced “En-jei-ji”). Following their public announcement on the 7th that they have parted ways with their former agency, ADOR, the members took to social media to unveil the new team name, marking the start of their independent journey.

The group’s transformation was immediately evident in a newly released group photo, showcasing a strikingly different concept from the fresh and approachable image they had built as NewJeans. With crimson contact lenses, moody lighting, and a dreamlike atmosphere, the image hinted at a bolder, more intense artistic direction, sparking excitement among fans. In an interview with CNN, the members revealed, “We’re aiming for a completely different image. It’s time to leave behind the ‘girl next door’ vibe and embrace something sharper and more powerful.”

NJZ will make their live debut at ComplexCon from March 21 to 23 at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. The group also teased that a brand-new single will be unveiled during the event. In a live broadcast on social media, the members shared, “We’ll be performing our new song for the first time at ComplexCon. It’s a style we’ve never experimented with before, and we’re just as excited as the fans.”

Meanwhile, ADOR has filed a lawsuit seeking to validate their exclusive contract with the group. In a public statement, the agency expressed its disappointment, saying, “We deeply regret that the members made this unilateral decision before any legal judgment on the validity of their contract could be reached.” Despite the ongoing legal dispute, NJZ is forging ahead with their new agency, engaging with fans through concept teasers on social media and solidifying their fresh direction.
