She went on to say, “After finishing shoots, I often go home and cook three servings of ramen.” She also mentioned eating cup ramen when her throat hurts after performances.

◆ Ramen’s Negative Impact on Health

Despite her love for ramen, Jisoo admitted that she tries to control her intake due to its role in weight gain and its negative effects on health.

One of the key concerns with ramen is its high sodium content, with a single pack containing 1,500 to 2,000 mg of sodium. Excessive sodium intake can lead to increased blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage. Additionally, its high fat content raises the risk of obesity.

Ramen is also rich in refined carbohydrates, which have a high glycemic index that can cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels. This can stimulate insulin production and increase the risk of diabetes. The lack of fiber in ramen negatively affects gut health, potentially leading to constipation and cardiovascular issues.

Hot, spicy ramen broth is also bad for throat health. Ingredients like chili and pepper can irritate the throat and worsen inflammation, while overly hot broth may damage the esophageal lining. When experiencing a sore throat, it’s better to drink warm teas such as ginger tea, lemon tea, or honey tea. Ginger helps reduce inflammation, vitamin C in lemons can prevent colds, and honey soothes the throat.

◆ How to Reduce Ramen’s Sodium Content

There are ways to make ramen a bit healthier. Boiling the noodles separately and then adding them to the soup can reduce sodium content by up to 27%. Using less seasoning powder is another effective way to cut down on sodium. Incorporating these tips can help enjoy ramen in a healthier way.
