“Created Out of Necessity to Represent Our Stance Amid the Dispute with HYBE.”
On January 31, the families of NewJeans members launched an Instagram account, '@jeanz_pr', to share their perspective amid the ongoing legal battle with HYBE. The account has already reached more than 50.5K followers.
Through the account, the parents stated, “This is a temporary account created out of necessity to represent our position during the ongoing dispute with HYBE.” The families explained, “Since we didn’t have an official platform to share our stance, we tried multiple times to convey the facts through interviews or via journalists we had connections with. Although some media outlets accurately reported our views, they were in the minority.” They also noted their failed attempts at issuing press releases through an agency: “Our statements were often misrepresented in headlines or distorted on paper, making it extremely difficult for our message to be delivered without bias.”
The parents further alleged that HYBE and ADOR have been distributing articles that favor their narrative without proper fact-checking or granting the right to refute false claims. “Every day, hundreds of articles that misrepresent the situation or solely reflect HYBE and ADOR’s position flood the media, including certain internet news outlets,” they claimed.
Concerns Over False Information Ahead of Court Proceedings
The families also stated that just ahead of the injunction hearing, they had received tips suggesting that HYBE and ADOR were once again circulating damaging rumors through unofficial channels. “This prompted us to create this account,” they said.
They acknowledged the public’s possible fatigue with the prolonged dispute: “We understand this ongoing conflict may be tiring for some, and we sincerely apologize. However, this account is crucial for correcting false narratives, particularly regarding matters the members themselves cannot directly address.”
New Activity Name and Legal Battles
On January 23, NewJeans members posted on social media, announcing a public contest for a new group name. In a statement, they emphasized, “The five of us will never return to HYBE or ADOR, as they have betrayed even the minimum trust we had in them.”
The conflict began on November 29, when NewJeans announced their intent to terminate their exclusive contracts with ADOR, citing contract breaches. ADOR, however, maintains that the contracts remain valid and has filed a lawsuit seeking confirmation of the contract’s validity, along with an injunction to prohibit the members from signing new promotional or advertising deals.
To counter this, NewJeans has appointed Sejong, one of Korea’s leading law firms, as their legal representatives.
