‘The Glory’ Director Ahn Gil-ho Steps In for Post-Production
Netflix’s highly anticipated K-drama Everything Will Come True (also known as All the Love You Wish For), written by star screenwriter Kim Eun-sook, is facing a major shift after its original director, Lee Byung-hun, unexpectedly stepped down, sparking both concern and renewed excitement for the project.
On January 27, Netflix confirmed, “Director Lee Byung-hun has stepped down from Everything Will Come True due to personal reasons. Post-production is currently being handled by the production company and specialized staff across different fields.”
Filming for the drama wrapped in October last year, and the project is now in the final stages of post-production. Although a release date has not been officially set, it is expected to premiere within the year.
The news of Lee Byung-hun’s exit came as a shock to many, given his reputation for balancing creativity and mainstream appeal through works like the film Extreme Job and the drama Be Melodramatic. Fans had high expectations for his signature witty and dynamic directing style in this project.
Stepping into the role for post-production is Ahn Gil-ho, who previously collaborated with Kim Eun-sook on The Glory. Known for his ability to grasp Kim’s unique dialogue and world-building, Ahn is expected to minimize the impact of Lee’s absence and ensure a smooth transition to completion.
Everything Will Come True is a fantasy romantic comedy centered on a genie named Jinny (played by Kim Woo-bin), who awakens after a thousand years, and Ga-young (played by Suzy), a woman who lacks emotion. The two become entangled in a story revolving around three wishes, offering contrasting yet complementary dynamics between Jinny’s vibrant energy and Ga-young’s stoic personality.
One of the key highlights is the on-screen reunion of Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, seven years after their last project together. Kim Woo-bin, as the playful and charismatic genie Jinny, will bring his trademark charm, while Suzy will explore new territory with her portrayal of the emotionally detached Ga-young.
Joining them are Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun, Go Kyu-pil, and Lee Joo-young, who will round out the cast with their distinct roles. Ahn Eun-jin plays Mi-joo, a mysterious woman, while Noh Sang-hyun portrays Soo-hyun, a character who opposes Jinny and heightens the tension. Go Kyu-pil and Lee Joo-young add light-hearted elements as Jinny’s trusted ally and Ga-young’s close friend, respectively.
Kim Eun-sook’s return to the small screen is already creating global buzz. The legendary writer, known for hits like Goblin, Descendants of the Sun, and Mr. Sunshine, has consistently elevated the international reputation of Korean dramas. Her latest work, blending fantasy and comedy, is highly anticipated by fans worldwide.
Despite the unexpected shake-up with Lee Byeong-heon’s departure, the series remains on track to deliver a memorable experience. With Kim Eun-sook’s writing, Ahn Gil-ho’s direction, and a star-studded cast, Everything Will Come True is poised to become another K-drama sensation. Viewers eagerly await how this romantic comedy, set to premiere on Netflix, will captivate global audiences.
