Netflix drama XO, Kitty 2, filmed in Cheonan, South Korea, has claimed the top spot on Netflix’s global TV series chart just one day after its release, surpassing the much-anticipated Squid Game 2. XO, Kitty 2 is a spinoff of the hit Netflix series To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and follows the coming-of-age story of Kitty, the protagonist, as she navigates life at an elite high school in Seoul. The show’s delicate portrayal of teen emotions, combined with its seamless incorporation of Korean culture and atmosphere, has garnered widespread acclaim from viewers worldwide.

The second season, set against a South Korean backdrop, conducted three days of filming in Cheonan last April. Locations featured include the Hannuri Hall and athletic field at Sangmyung University’s Cheonan campus, which served as Kitty’s fictional school, as well as Cheonan Stadium, which also appeared prominently in the series.

This is the first time an international production filmed in Chungcheongnam-do has achieved such massive success. Last year, Chungcheongnam-do also attracted the Hollywood series Butterfly, marking a significant milestone in becoming a sought-after filming destination for global projects. The success of XO, Kitty 2 further cements the region’s potential as a global hub for content production.

Kim Gok-mi, director of the Chungnam Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, emphasized the significance of this achievement: “The international success of XO, Kitty 2, filmed in Chungcheongnam-do, highlights the region’s incredible potential. We will continue to focus on attracting domestic and international productions to establish Chungnam as a center for global media content.”

With this triumph, Chungcheongnam-do is poised to attract more international productions, reinforcing its growing reputation as a dynamic and versatile filming location.
