Amid pregnancy news, Director Hong’s latest film competes at Berlinale, marking his 6th consecutive invitation and Berlin Film Festival Nomination.
Renowned filmmaker Hong Sang-soo’s 33rd feature, What Does the Nature Say to You, has been officially selected for the competition section of the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, set to begin on February 13.
The Berlinale Executive Committee announced the selection on January 21 (local time), making this the sixth consecutive year Hong’s work has been invited to the prestigious event. His previous films, including The Woman Who Ran, Introduction, and The Novelist’s Film, have received critical acclaim at Berlin, earning multiple Silver Bears.
Starring Ha Seong-guk, Kwon Hae-hyo, and Cho Yoon-hee, What Does the Nature Say to You follows a 30-something poet, Dong-hwa, and the unexpected events that unfold when he visits his lover Jun-hee’s home. Hong’s long-time partner, Kim Min-hee, contributed to the film as its production manager.
This exciting career milestone coincides with the couple’s personal announcement: Kim Min-hee is expecting Hong Sang-soo’s child, with the due date anticipated this spring. The two have been together since 2015, after meeting on the set of Right Now, Wrong Then.
The Berlin International Film Festival will take place in the German capital from February 13 to 23, where Hong’s film will make its world premiere before its domestic release later this year.
