"Season 1 didn’t perform well enough to guarantee a sequel."
Actor Kwon Sang-woo has shared his thoughts on the release of 'Hitman 2,' the sequel to the 2020 action-comedy 'Hitman.'
On January 15, a press screening and media conference for the film were held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul. The event was attended by director Choi Won-sub and cast members Kwon Sang-woo, Jung Joon-ho, Lee Yi-kyung, Hwang Woo-seul-hye, and Kim Sung-oh. 'Hitman 2' follows its predecessor, which, despite a modest box office performance with 2.4 million admissions, gained significant popularity through word-of-mouth.
Reflecting on the first installment, Kwon candidly remarked, “To be honest, the first movie wasn’t a blockbuster that crossed the 5 million mark. It didn’t perform well enough to guarantee a sequel, and it was particularly disappointing because it coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
He added, “When I heard that 'Hitman 2' was going into production, I saw it as a personal revenge mission. I started this project with the determination to bring joy to even more people than we did with the first movie.”
'Hitman 2' is a comic action film centered on Joon (played by Kwon Sang-woo), a former hitman-turned-webtoon creator. When a terrorist attack mimics his latest comic, Joon is suddenly framed as the mastermind, leading to a chaotic and thrilling adventure.
The film is set to hit theaters nationwide on January 22 KST.
