TVING’s new original series 'Study Group' is set to debut on 23rd, with the platform releasing a vibrant group poster and main trailer on January 13 KST.
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, 'Study Group' is a high school action drama that follows Yoon Ga-min (played by Hwang Min-hyun), a student who wants to excel academically but finds his talent lies in fighting. In the worst-performing school, he forms a study group and takes on the cutthroat world of exams. The series depicts Yoon Ga-min’s journey of choosing to fight in order to study, alongside his classmates, each with their own unique backstory.
Directed by Lee Jang-hoon, known for films like 'Miracle' and 'Be With You', and written by Um Seon-ho and Oh Bo-hyun, the series features a stellar lineup of rising actors, including Hwang Min-hyun, Han Ji-eun, Shin Soo-hyun, Cha Woo-min, Yoon Sang-jung, and Gong Do-yu.
The newly released group poster showcases the full Study Group team. Yoon Ga-min, clutching a notebook with a proud smile, is flanked by the cheerful and dependable Han Kyung (Han Ji-eun). The poster also highlights the unique personalities of other characters, including Choi Hee-won (Yoon Sang-jung), whose face bears scars but whose eyes shine with determination, and Lee Jun (Gong Do-yu), who joins the group, impressed by Yoon Ga-min’s fighting skills.
The trailer begins with Yoon Ga-min alone in a dark classroom, fully immersed in his studies. Despite being a "study fanatic," he discovers that forming a study group is the ultimate strategy for success. The trailer teases his journey to find like-minded peers in a high school dominated by daily power struggles, heightening anticipation for the series.
Even before its release, 'Study Group' has garnered significant attention. Despite its academic theme, the series received a restricted rating (18+) for reasons that have not been disclosed, adding to the intrigue. Hwang Min-hyun, who debuted in 2012 as a member of NU’EST, rose to fame after appearing on Produce 101 Season 2 in 2017. His striking visuals and exceptional dance skills earned him a spot in the final lineup of WANNA ONE, where he achieved immense popularity.
Having completed his military service as a social service worker in March 2022, Hwang Min-hyun is set to be discharged on December 20 this year. Fans eagerly await his performance in Study Group, which promises to showcase a new side of the multi-talented star.
