Song Hye-kyo Stuns Fans with Dramatic Hair Transformation and Candid Reflections
Actress Song Hye-kyo has caught everyone’s attention with a bold new short haircut. Known for keeping her private life and updates low-key, Song has recently been making frequent appearances on variety shows and YouTube, sparking interest among fans and viewers.
On January 12, the YouTube channel 'Fairy Jae-hyung' uploaded a video titled, "Wow... there's a one-hour video of Song Hye-kyo talking on YouTube..." The video quickly went viral, surpassing 1 million views within a day.
During the video, host Jung Jae-hyung couldn’t hold back his admiration, saying, “Your face is smaller than Haedum’s [his dog’s]. You’re so pretty, and the haircut suits you so well. You look so young” Song revealed the reason behind her transformation, saying, “I cut my hair short for a new project. It still feels a bit unfamiliar.”
When asked about her recent appearances on YouTube and variety shows, Song candidly replied, “It seems to be the trend these days. Also, as I’ve gotten older, I’m just grateful for the interest people show in me.”
Jung Jae-hyung remarked, “You seem more comfortable now than before,” to which Song responded, “Many people tell me that. I’ve experienced both good and challenging times in life. As a woman and an actress, I’ve faced difficulties but also had happy moments. Through it all, I’ve learned so much about life.”
She hinted at past hardships, saying, “As a woman, I’ve gone through tough experiences, but those moments shaped who I am today,” subtly alluding to her divorce and personal challenges.
From Iconic Roles to a Fresh Perspective
Song Hye-kyo rose to stardom with hit dramas like 'Soonpoong Clinic', 'Autumn in My Heart', 'Full House', and 'All In', becoming a household name in South Korea. However, she admitted, “At some point, I found my acting dull. I can only imagine how bored viewers must have been. Then I discovered The Glory, and acting became fun again.”
Since her role in 'The Glory', Song has gravitated toward darker, genre-heavy scripts. Explaining her choice of upcoming projects, she said, “I didn’t want to return to romantic dramas. I started receiving scripts for genre pieces and found myself paying closer attention to them.” Her next film, 'Dark Nuns', reflects this shift.
'Dark Nuns' tells the story of people performing a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful demon. Directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae, the film stars Song Hye-kyo, Jeon Yeo-been, Lee Jin-wook, and Moon Woo-jin. 'Dark Nuns' is set to premiere on January 24 KST.
Currently, Song is filming a new drama by writer Noh Hee-kyung, set in the 1960s-1970s, where she stars opposite actor Gong Yoo. The project promises another transformative performance from Song, further cementing her status as one of Korea’s most versatile and enduring actresses.
On her past struggles, including her divorce from Song Joong-ki after just two years of marriage, Song Hye-kyo shared with a smile, “I think it’s about time I started reaping the rewards of those difficult times.”
