'Thanos' T.O.P Breaks Rib While Filming 'Squid Game' Season 2: Yim Si-wan's View on T.O.P's Acting

On January 9, Xports News reported on an interview with Yim Si-wan held at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. The actor shared his thoughts on working with T.O.P, a fellow cast member in 'Squid Game' Season 2.

Yim Si-wan reminisced about T.O.P's heyday, saying, “BIGBANG at that time was the epitome of celebrities among celebrities. Even in shared waiting rooms, it was rare to see them. Just greeting them or exchanging glances would become a topic of conversation. I remember Kwanghee once joked, ‘I think BIGBANG noticed your outfit. They might have looked at what you were wearing.’ That’s how significant they were.”

Yim Si-wan revealed that the two trained together at an action school to prepare for their intense action scenes. “We had this fight scene in a restroom, and that was the moment where we had to give it our all,” he said. “During one of the takes, as we both fell mid-air, T.O.P ended up breaking his rib.”

He continued, “It was truly a moment of perseverance through injury. I’ve seen Sung-hoon [Choo Sung-hoon] suffer a rib fracture during boxing, so I know how painful and debilitating it can be. You can’t even breathe properly. Filming should’ve stopped, but he kept going. That’s when I thought, ‘He really is a celebrity among celebrities, with unmatched professionalism and dedication.’”

Regarding T.O.P’s acting, Yim Si-wan said, “I think opinions may differ. Acting is subjective, and everyone’s perspective varies. Personally, I don’t think I could play a role like Thanos,” hinting at the complexity of T.O.P’s character and dedication.

Rib fractures, which often result from external forces like blunt trauma or falls, come with immense pain. Depending on the severity and the number of fractured ribs, symptoms and treatments can vary. In T.O.P’s case, a rib fracture likely caused severe pain during filming. A broken rib’s sharp edges can damage internal organs such as the lungs or blood vessels, potentially leading to complications. In severe cases, abdominal organ damage can also occur.

If a rib fracture is suspected, an X-ray or CT scan is essential to assess the condition. For minor fractures without complications, a chest band can be used to stabilize the rib cage, though the recovery process is slower than other injuries due to constant movement from breathing. Pain relief medication and rest are standard treatments, but sudden symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, or abdominal pain should prompt immediate medical attention.
