On December 29(KST), G-Dragon shared a black-and-white daisy photo on Instagram to honor the victims of the Muan Jeju Air tragedy.
The post included a yellow ribbon emoji, a poignant symbol of mourning. The daisy, often used by the artist to represent hope and peace, was presented in grayscale, adding to the somber tone of the tribute. Without any accompanying words, the image spoke volumes, conveying deep sorrow and resonating with his followers.
Without adding any words, the single image encapsulated deep sorrow, resonating powerfully with his audience, and fans around the world expressed their condolences in the comments, writing messages like, "My deepest condolences to the victims and their families," "I read the news overseas, and it’s heartbreaking. May this never happen again," "Rest in peace to those who lost their lives," "Praying for Korea during this tragic time," "Such a devastating day. May the victims find peace in heaven," and "My heart feels so heavy… Sending comfort to the families."
Earlier that morning at 9:03 a.m., Jeju Air flight 7C2216, traveling from Bangkok to Muan International Airport, crashed during its landing attempt, and the aircraft’s landing gear failed to deploy, causing it to collide with runway infrastructure, with most of the plane engulfed in flames shortly after impact, leaving only the tail section intact, and of the 181 passengers on board, only two crew members seated in the tail section survived.
As of December 30, 7:25 a.m. (KST), authorities have identified 140 of the 179 confirmed fatalities, with a total of 165 remains temporarily placed in a holding facility as identification and forensic processes continue, and the government plans to gradually hand over the remains to the victims' families.
This tragedy marks the deadliest aviation accident in South Korea’s history, and the government has declared a national mourning period until January 4 at midnight.
