Crowned as the Most Popular K-Drama of the First Half of the Year
tvN dramas 'Queen of Tears' and 'A Bloody Lucky Day' have achieved significant recognition at the 2024 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA), Asia's largest content awards ceremony.
According to Studio Dragon on December 5, 'Queen of Tears' won Best Direction, while 'A Bloody Lucky Day' was honored with Best Original Production by a Streamer at the ceremony held in Singapore.
The AACA, an annual December event, celebrates the year’s outstanding achievements in Asia's content market. This year, 'Queen of Tears' secured the Best Direction award, and 'A Bloody Lucky Day' was recognized as the Best Original Production.
Adding to its accolades, 'Queen of Tears' also won the Best Screenplay award at the 29th Asian TV Awards (ATA) in Indonesia on November 30. It is the only Korean drama to win at both prestigious ceremonies this year. The ATA, established in 1996, is one of Asia’s most long-standing media awards events.
'Queen of Tears,' starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, is a romance drama that follows the story of Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won), a terminally ill Chaebol heiress, and Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun), an ordinary man she marries. The series became a massive hit, recording an average viewership rating of 24.9% for its final episode, making it the highest-rated drama in tvN’s history. Globally, it streamed on Netflix, amassing 682.6 million viewing hours in the first half of the year, ranking as one of the most-watched K-dramas.
Studio Dragon, known for its groundbreaking content, has consistently performed well at international awards. In 2023, Netflix’s 'The Glory' won Best Drama Series and Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the AACA. In 2022, AACA recognized tvN dramas such as 'Twenty-Five Twenty-One' (Best Drama Series), 'Our Blues' (Best Screenplay), and 'Yumi’s Cells' (Best Original Production by a Streamer).
