This season introduces a variety of new characters alongside Thanos. Im Si-wan plays 333rd, Myeong-gi, a YouTuber who joins the game after losing everything due to a cryptocurrency investment failure. Kang Ha-neul takes on the role of 388th, Dae-ho, a cheerful and easygoing character, adding both humor and tension to the storyline. Lee Jin-wook plays 246th, Gyeong-seok, who joins the game desperately to raise money for his sick daughter, bringing an emotional depth to the narrative.

Park Seong-hoon portrays 120th, Hyeon-joo, a transgender character aiming to fund gender confirmation surgery, drawing attention due to the rarity of such characters in Korean dramas. Yang Dong-geun and Kang Ae-sim play 007th, Yong-sik, and 149th, Geum-ja, a mother and son who join the game to pay off gambling debts. Their relationship is expected to spark further conflicts and emotional development within the game. Lee Seo-hwan plays 390th, Jeong-bae, who reunites with his long-lost friend Gi-hoon (played by Lee Jung-jae) in the game, linking back to Season 1.

The conflict between Gi-hoon and the Frontman, central to Season 1, continues in this season. Gi-hoon’s determined appearance, rejoining the game for revenge, is reflected in the posters. His serious expression contrasts with the human side of his character shown in Season 1, adding to the suspense. Meanwhile, new participants display excited expressions, heightening curiosity about how their stories will unfold within the game.

Squid Game Season 1, released in 2021, caused a global phenomenon, not only as a survival game but also by sharply addressing issues in capitalist society. The mystery surrounding the Frontman's identity and the game’s true mastermind sparked constant discussions among fans worldwide. Season 2 is expected to expand on this intrigue, offering a deeper narrative.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "Through the diverse characters' stories, I aimed to explore human nature." This season will delve into the participants' various backgrounds and how their pasts collide and unfold within the game, delivering a more profound emotional impact. The director also expressed confidence in Season 2, stating, "We will address the stories we couldn't touch on in Season 1."

Squid Game 2, set to be released on Netflix on the 26th, is ready to leave a strong impression on viewers worldwide. Ahead of the release, Squid Game’s viewing time has increased by 60%, fueling speculation that Season 2 could break new records. According to entertainment media Variety, the viewing time for Season 1 increased by 60% following the release of the first teaser for Season 2 on the 31st of last month.
