Tottenham Delays Son Heung-min's Contract Renewal – Is a Big Football Club Ready to Make Their Move?

Reports have emerged suggesting that Son Heung-min (Tottenham) could transfer to Barcelona.

The Spanish outlet El Gol Digital reported on December 3 that "Barcelona has set plans to sign Son Heung-min. Barcelona's management is looking to offload one or two players that coach Hansi Flick has overlooked to make room for Son Heung-min." They added, "Preparations have already been made to create a spot for Son."

The report stated, "The transfer fee for the left winger Son Heung-min is estimated at €45 million (approximately 66.2 billion KRW). Son Heung-min is the most valuable football player from South Korea. His compatriot, Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, is also recognized with a similar value."

However, the outlet acknowledged the challenges involved, noting, "Son Heung-min is one of Tottenham's key players, making any transfer complicated. Son's contract with Tottenham runs until June 30, 2024, and reports suggest that he and Tottenham are likely to renew their agreement. Barcelona would need to make significant efforts to sign him."

Furthermore, the outlet elaborated on Barcelona's potential moves, saying, "Barcelona is seriously preparing for Son Heung-min's transfer and has already drafted a list of players to offload. The club is considering letting go of Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres. Fati is not a priority for coach Flick and is already marked as a player to leave Barcelona. Meanwhile, Torres, who originated from Valencia, has played less than 500 minutes this season."

El Gol Digital added, "Both players are expected to leave the team under Flick's system by 2025. The savings from their salaries will be redirected toward investing in Son Heung-min, who is expected to earn €12 million (approximately 17.6 billion KRW) per season."
