K-pop Star Taeyeon Draws the Line with Zero Tolerance for Online Harassment.
On December 2, her agency SM Entertainment issued an official statement via her social media accounts, outlining their ongoing legal actions against individuals who have posted defamatory or malicious content targeting the singer.
SM Entertainment shared that they have collected thousands of pieces of evidence, thanks to both fans’ reports and their own monitoring efforts. “We have been filing complaints with law enforcement for defamation, insults, and other related offenses, based on this evidence,” the statement revealed. “Hundreds of cases have already been submitted.” The agency also noted that several suspects have been identified and investigations are underway. Among the resolved cases, two individuals received final judgments from prosecutors, including education-based probation and dismissal due to the accused’s death.
SM further detailed past instances where minor offenders were required to submit apology letters under parental supervision, while adult offenders faced fines or conditional dismissals. The agency emphasized its ongoing commitment to protecting Taeyeon from malicious rumors, defamatory comments, and other forms of online abuse, vowing to respond with zero tolerance moving forward.
Amid this legal battle, Taeyeon’s music career continues to soar. On November 18, she released her sixth mini-album, Letter to Myself, which quickly climbed to the top of the charts. The title track and accompanying songs dominated South Korea’s Bugs real-time chart and secured top positions across various digital platforms.
Internationally, the album topped the digital sales charts on China's QQ Music and Kugou Music. It also claimed the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Top Album charts in Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Cambodia, further cementing her global influence.
The song Letter to Myself carries a heartfelt message of self-acceptance and personal growth. Through its introspective lyrics and soothing melodies, the title track offers a warm embrace to listeners navigating their own journeys. The mini-album features six tracks spanning various genres, showcasing Taeyeon’s versatility and artistry. This marks Taeyeon’s first album in a year, following her fifth mini-album, To. X, released in November 2022.
